Playing Hard vs. Competing:

Ultrarunner Harvey Lewis won the 2023 Big Dog's Backyard Ultra, outlasting world record holders Merijn Geerts and Phil Gore.

The race format? Runners complete a 4.16-mile loop every hour. After each lap, they have whatever time remains to rest before starting again. The race only ends when one runner remains.

Last year's race lasted 108 hours, with Lewis running 4.16 miles every hour for nearly five days, covering 450 miles and setting a new world record. At one point, he was taking 60-second naps between laps!

Playing hard isn’t the same as competing. Plenty of players play hard, but real competitors show up to push their limits. Don’t just go through the motions—compete with everything you’ve got. When you repeatedly compete to exhaustion, the results will follow. Empty the tank.
