The Bison Mindset: Facing the Storm

The Core:
Bison instinctively walk into snowstorms rather than away from them. By facing the storm head-on, they minimize their time in discomfort and quickly emerge on the other side. This behavior reflects instinct, resilience, courage, and efficiency in dealing with challenges.
Action Points:
1. Adversity is Inevitable
Like a snowstorm on the plains, challenges—whether physical, mental, or emotional—
are a part of the journey. Trying to avoid or outrun them often prolongs the struggle.
–
2. Embrace the Challenge
The bison teaches us to lean into discomfort. Athletes can view tough practices,
losses, or mental blocks as opportunities to grow by facing them directly instead of–
avoiding them.
–
3. Short-Term Discomfort, Long-Term Gain
Just as walking into the storm gets the bison out faster, addressing weaknesses,
pushing through fatigue, or resolving conflicts as a team leads to quicker progress and
success.
–
4. Be an Example of Resilience
Show them how to face obstacles calmly and confidently. When you show caution, your
players will feel that too.
–
Turn insights into action:
1. What “storms” are you currently facing in your life or journey, and how can adopting
the Bison Mindset help you confront them more effectively?
2. When have you avoided a challenge in the past, and what did it cost you? How might
facing challenges head-on change the way you approach obstacles in the future?
